"One...two...three!" They all jumped to their feet letting out carnal screams ready to attack.
Three shadowy figures jumped back screaming. "OH MY GOD!!" A female voice shouted. "It's us!!!" She cowered down to protect herself.
"Nina! JC...Von." Owen noticed. "You guys are alive!"
"Yeah that almost ended two seconds ago." Von retorted. All of them shared a quick embrace realizing that more of them had survived than they thought.
"What made you guys come here?" Adrienne asked.
"Probably the same reason you guys are here. We needed something to protect ourselves with. And by the looks of things, you guys found just that."
Coughing could be heard towards the back. "What's that?" JC asked. They all walked over to where Eric was.
"He's not doing well." Adrienne said while replacing his blood soaked bandages.
"Is that JC?" Eric said opening his eyes slightly.
"It is, buddy. I'm here. You're going to all right okay?"
"Thanks."
JC got up and surveyed the room. "We can't stay here."
"Why not?" Owen asked. "If we barricade the front door, we could probably stand those zombies off."
"Zombies?" Nina asked.
Jiko explained his entire theory on zombies including that they could only be killed with a blow to the brain.
"They just want to eat on our flesh?"
"That's how the theory goes." Jiko replied.
"So we need a place we can protect ourselves from, huh?" Von asked.
"Yeah, so why NOT this place." Owen jumped in.
"There isn't any food..." JC began.
"Or water." Adrienne added. "I already checked. The waterlines seem to have been cut off."
"But it's late. And who knows how many of those things there are out there. I say we barricade ourselves for the night and try our luck in the morning."
Everyone looked to Jiko. "Why are you all staring at me?"
"You know zombies inside and out. Is Owen's idea a good one?" JC asked.
"From what I know, they're more active at night..." He began to pace back and forth, "But those are all just movies! This is real life. Who even knows if the information I'm telling you guys is worth shit."
"It's all we got going for us right now." Nina said. "We have nothing else."
"Exactly my point. We HAVE nothing else." Jiko said, his voice raising. "So we survive tonight, then what?"
"Shut up. Don't talk like that." JC started.
"Let's be serious, for all we know...everyone we love is dead!"
"I SAID SHUT THE FUCK UP." JC pushed through Owen and Nina, lunging at Jiko. Owen held him back.
"Gu..gu...guys." Everyone turned around at Von. He pointed at shadows that began to cast from outside by the moon. The shadows were slowly making their way towards the door.
Jiko whispered, "Everyone grab a weapon! I think this is it."
"Zombies!" Von shrieked quietly. He held a baseball bat in his shaking hands.
A group of zombies staggered their way through the opened doors of Strosniders. They paused for a second to sniff the air and immediately made a dart towards the back where everyone was hiding.
"They caught our scent." Jiko said.
"There is a back door to this place right?" JC asked.
"Yeah. I noticed one." Adrienne responded.
"Okay everyone we got to get to the back door." JC commanded and everyone slowly made their way to the back, making sure to keep their heads down.
The door was locked with a chain locked around it.
"Fuck. Owen grab me a saw." JC began to saw away at the chain.
"Hurry JC, they're coming." Von said.
"Fuck this, they already know we're here." Owen and Jiko got up with their weapons and charged towards the zombies. Jiko swung his pick axe and sliced through one of the zombie's heads. The creature fell to the floor, its body still twitching. Owen took one out with one swoop of his hammer. "You guys got it? They're are more coming! Don't know how long we can hold them off for!"
More zombies entered the store making the distance between them and freedom smaller and smaller with every second. A zombie lunged at Owen missing landing a scratch on him by a few centimeters.
JC sawed at the chain as fast as he could, making very little progress. "I don't know if I can do this." He said still going at it furiously.
"You have to!" Von said afraid.
"I need more time."
"Then I'll give you time." Suddenly Eric appeared out of one of the aisles carrying a tank of kerosene.
"Eric, what are you planning on doing?!" Adrienne asked.
"I'm going to give you guys more time."
"But you'll get caught in the blaze if you ignite that!"
"Don't you see I'm dying anyway? You guys have a chance. My chance is over. Please, just don't look back and get out of here as fast as you can. Jiko, Owen step back!" The two guys retreated back still holding their weapons as Eric dragged a huge amount of kerosene and a blow torch. He placed them in a line in front of the advancing zombies.
"I got it!" JC said unchaining the lock and opening the door. "Everyone go!" Adrienne left looking back at Eric, tears running from her eyes. Nina followed with Von behind her. Jiko and Owen left and JC pleaded with Eric one more time, "Eric you can come with us."
Eric looked back, "They'll keep chasing you. Now go!" JC mouthed, "Thank You" and left.
"Thank you guys...for being there for me." He lit the blow torch and looked at the zombies that stood mere inches from him. "Welcome to hell!" He lit the kerosene tanks that instantly created a blazing inferno in the store. In an instance the entire store went up in flames...and with Eric, a dozen zombies perished.
