JC creaked open the shed door and stuck his head to double check the coast was clear.
"How does it look outside?" Nina asked cramped inside with Von pushing up against her.
"I can't breathe any more!" Von said.
JC turned around. "I think we're good. There's a lot of snow on the ground...be careful where you step." He suddenly closed the door.
"What are you doing?" Nina asked.
"Remember...it's about 2 miles to Whitman from here...it'll be open streets. It is morning so the zombies will be less active, right Jiko?"
"Right!" Jiko sticking his head up from all the way in the back.
"There is still a chance that we could be attacked. Keep a good look out...and when I say run, run. Everyone got their weapons?" Everyone nodded.
JC opened the door again and they quickly made it out to River Road, passing broken houses and one that was boarded up.

"Keep quiet." Nuria whispered. "I hear zombies running outside." Lauren held her breath as Susie slept.
They kept silent, the wind blowing outside the door, frosting up the window with drifting snow. They could hear each of Susie's breaths as Nuria clutched a crowbar in her hands. She moved to the window to take a peek at the zombies outside. She only caught a glimpse of one of them turning down River Road. "They're gone." She walked back putting her crowbar down on the chair.
"I think she'll be good enough to make it to Whitman by tomorrow." Nuria looked at Susie. "She's sleeping better."
Lauren looked up. "Do you think our parents will have made it over there?"
"I suppose they have."
"I hope so. I didn't really leave my house the last time on a good note. I just want to be able to say sorry."
Gun fire could be heard outside.
"What is that!" Lauren ducked down.
"I think it's the military. I heard gunfire throughout the night...the sky was glowing. I think they're finally fighting back."
"Do you think they're nearby?"
"Probably downtown. I'm sure they'll be out here any day now. I wonder what they're doing to stop this."
"I wonder how this even started."
Nuria went back and looked out the window. "They're probably dead." She turned around. "The couple who saved me, I mean. They never came back."
"Are you sure?"
"We'll take the car. I'm sure we'll be safe for the 2 miles to get there...and plus it'll be easier for Susie that way."
Lauren wiped the sweat off of Susie's forehead with a damp towel. "We'll make it through..." She looked at Nuria, "won't we?" Nuria could only stare back with worried eyes.

"Go, go, go!" Christa said looking down the alleyway between them and the police station. Annie, Lauren Norris, Caroline and Devin sprinted, looking each direction and clutching make shift weapons. Devin was given two hammers, one for each hand.
They made it to the police station and crept in. Caroline noticed the door lock was broken.
"I don't think we're the first ones here." She turned around to the others.
Christa walked ahead of everyone. "Keep quiet...I don't think we're alone in here." They walked quietly through the halls, blood and black liquid ooze dripped on the floor. Christa had to cover her mouth when she pushed into the locker room. Dead bodies littered the floor and lockers were swung open. Caroline could hear a faint noise towards the back.
"In there." She pointed to a room that looked like it would have weapons. Annie and Devin went over to check. Christa and Lauren Norris opened the lockers to see if there were guns in there. Caroline walked over to the bathroom and carefully placed her hand on the handle, with a metal pole in the other.
"Be careful not to make any noise" Christa whispered to Lauren Norris having found some ammo, even though she had no idea what kind it was.
Caroline looked back to make sure no one was looking and she quietly turned the handle and pushed the door slightly open. Something rushed from the other side, grabbed the door and threw it open. Caroline screamed and backed away. A zombie with blood shot eyes and black ooze dripping from its half severed mouth ran past her and towards Lauren Norris who could do nothing but cover herself with her arms and scream. Christa froze in place and saw the zombie rush past her. "No!" She screamed.
BANG.
The zombie fell down. Everyone turned to see Annie dropping a shot gun, her hands shaking.
Christa rushed over to Lauren who was crying on the floor. "Are you okay?" Lauren shook.
Christa looked back, "Why did you open that door?!" She screamed at Caroline.
"I thought I could handle it..." Her eyes diverted to the floor.
"We have to hurry. More zombies will have heard that and be coming soon. Did you guys find any guns in there?"
Devin came out with a bag. "Just a few!" She said holding it up.
"Then let's go." Christa glared back at Caroline. "Help Lauren get up."
Christa, Annie and Devin ran out of the police station. Caroline went over to Lauren Norris who was still crying on the ground. "Let's go." She put her hand out. Lauren grabbed it, got up and left the station. Caroline looked back at the wriggling zombie on the ground. She walked over and stepped on the zombie's face, smashing the rest of its jaw. "Nice try." She turned around and ran after the rest of the group.
