"What are we going to do now?" Kelly said. David, Ashleigh and Vankelia were guarding the perimeter. The sun rose only an hour before and the group, after days of observation, realized that very few, if any, zombies were around at such a time. It would have been the perfect time to steal the car but unfortunately the other group had outsmarted them as well.
Elizabeth thought for a second and within moments came up with a brilliant idea.
"Kelly, you know how to get into that store right?"
"Chanel? Yeah, I was the one that set up the defenses there."
"Well that's where they're hiding..." Elizabeth whispered the rest into Kelly's ear who clearly agreed with a huge smile that smeared across her face.
People were still asleep in the backroom of the store. Jiko and Owen took their turns guarding the front with their guns, Jiko sharpening his knives.
"How did you get into that knives anyway?" Owen asked him.
"I don' know." He replied. "Just 'cause."
Kelly quietly crept into the hallway to make sure they weren't seen and gestured for the rest of the group to sneak in while David guarded from outside.
Nina and Nuria were sleeping closest to the door and in one silent swoop, Ashleigh and Vankelia covered the sleeping girls mouths and dragged them up. The two girls woke up and realized what was going on. Nina struggled and kicked causing the rest of the sleeping friends to wake.
"What's going on!" Christa said bolting up grabbing her machete. Sarah jumped up and searched the ground next to her for her gun.
"I wouldn't do that." All of them looked up from their sleeping daze. Elizabeth and Kelly had guns pointed to the kidnapped girls' heads.
"What are you doing!" LeAndria asked, tempted to grab her gun.
"I'm serious...I will shoot them." Elizabeth said.
Owen and Jiko ran from the front of the store after hearing the commotion. Kelly fired a warning shot just above Owen's head. Everyone ducked down.
"I said stop!!" Elizabeth said. She motioned for Vankelia and Ashleigh to back away with their captures and out the door while she and Kelly walked slowly backwards, guns pointed at the other group.
"If you want to see them again...alive...meet by the wall at noon. And BRING the battery that I know you took." And they were gone.
Noon was fast approaching and Elizabeth looked at her watch to see if the other group was going to come by.
"If they don't come, you're dead." Kelly whispered into Nuria's ear.
"Why are you doing this?" Nina asked. "The world only changed 6 days ago...where is your humanity?!"
"There is no humanity. It's all about survival." Elizabeth said. The four girls waited until they saw the other group walk out, Jiko in the front carrying the battery.
"So you brought it." Elizabeth said smiling. "Drop it at your feet and go. We will let the girls free once you do it."
"How do we know you'll stay true to your word if we go?" Christa asked.
"You'll just have to believe us." Elizabeth laughed but stopped suddenly. "We don't want to kill them...we just want to get out of here. No one has to get hurt."
Behind Christa, Caroline gave Ashleigh a look. Devin looked up at the corner of her eye which Elizabeth caught. "What are you looking at?!" Elizabeth scanned the roofs and spotted Sarah on one with a rifle aiming at them. "What is she doing up there!"
Christa smirked. "To make sure your guy isn't thinking of doing anything stupid." She pointed at another roof where David was stationed with a rifle aiming at them as well.
"I should have realized you guys wouldn't be this stupid....so what now?" Elizabeth asked.
"Simple. You let go of the girls and toss that spark plug over here and we'll forget anything happened." Christa said.
"And then what? Your group is too big to all fit in this car." Elizabeth said. "Some of you would be shit out of luck."
"That's not your concern!" Christa said although a pang hit her in the stomach realizing Elizabeth was right. What WOULD they do if they got the car.
"Hah...you're just realizing this aren't you?" Elizabeth said. "You know what, fine take it...and take them."
"WHAT! NO!" Kelly refused.
"DO IT!" Elizabeth said pulling Kelly by the arm. "They'll end themselves...trust me."
Kelly looked at her and motioned for Ashleigh and Vankelia to let the girls go. They pushed Nina and Nuria towards the group and Elizabeth tossed the spark plug to Christa. "Have fun."
Nina and Nuria began walking back when suddenly Nuria fell down on her knees and collapsed.
"What happened!" Susie asked rushing towards her. Nina ran for cover. They all realized that she had been shot in the back and died instantly.
"WHAT DID YOU DO!" Christa screamed. Elizabeth looked perplexed. Both groups looked up at the roofs where their snipers were positioned. Sarah was frantically scanning around and David was as equally confused. "Over there!" Sarah screamed pointing at another roof. No one caught a glimpse of the person but their backside as they took their gun and ran off.
"To that store! We'll trap them!" A large group from both sides ran towards the department store. Nina, Susie, Caroline and Ashleigh stayed behind with Nuria's body.
"What is going on!!" Mel shouted, two throwing knives suddenly appearing in her hands.
The group stopped when two dozen or more zombies appeared out of the department store after hearing the commotion on the street.
Christa looked over at Elizabeth. "We have to work together...at least for now!" Christa shouted. Elizabeth clenched her fists tightly and gritted her teeth. She looked over at Kelly and motioned her to toss her a gun. "Fine..." Elizabeth began, "For now."
And the group ran towards the group of zombies and allowing the unknown assassin to flee.
